The Film – Our goal

We would like to produce the first – long-awaited – field hockey documentary under the patronage of the German Hockey Federation.

We want to make a riveting documentary lasting 75 to 90 minutes that will move hockey from the side-lines into the limelight of the sports world.

“Ecke, Schuss – Gold!” is meant to thrill not only the hockey community but all other sports enthusiasts too.

We believe that hockey must remain an Olympic game! By presenting hockey and its heroes emotionally and eye-catchingly, the film will create a positive perception of field hockey among the general public. Be a part of this project, and make this film become a reality!

The Film – Your support

Without hockey, there will be no Olympics – no Olympic Games without hockey!

If you feel this way too, then you should support the first film about our sport ever to be made in Germany! We want to draw the attention of the media to field hockey, giving it the attention that it deserves. Few other games are more dynamic or depend more on tactics. And yet hockey receives little notice from the public at large. Until now!

If you too want to see more people getting excited about field hockey, get involved now! Your favourite game and your heroes on the silver screen! Support “Ecke, Schuss – Gold!” and become a member of the hockey film family!

The Film – What will be done with the money?

“Ecke, Schuss – Gold!” will be a captivating and action-packed documentary which will bowl over everyone, not just hockey fans. Rest assured: every penny of your contribution will be invested into the film!

If we reach the funding threshold of 280,000 euros, we can produce the documentary. We have scheduled a total of 38 days for shooting the film. You will be rewarded with exclusive glimpses into the world of the national hockey teams and their exhausting, one-year preparations for Rio – emotions, suspense and passion. A few of the hockey stars will be followed a little more closely: our project ambassador and probably the most well-known German player, Moritz Fürste, the high-powered Nina Hasselmann from Munich and the youngster Mats Grambusch from Cologne, as well as Lisa Altenburg, who recently had her first child and is now once again playing for Hamburg.

What drives our national players to train hard every day for a game that receives little public recognition, despite being played at a professional level? How do they manage the balancing act between a professional sport and a job, or studying at university? How does taking part in the Olympic Games affect the players’ motivation?

Together with national goalkeeper Felix Reuß and former national coach Bernhard Peters, who is now the sports director of the club HSV, we compare hockey with other team sports. We also explain the rules and take a trip through the history of the game. Here, we hope to amaze you with exciting, largely unpublished footage from the archives, and bring the history of hockey to life. The game can look back on a long tradition, as will be demonstrated during our visits to the Kellers and Bluncks, families that have been taking part in German professional hockey for three generations now. Of course, our film crew will also be travelling to Rio, so as to be as close as possible to the teams – whether relaxing on the beach or in the dressing room before the game; this way you will experience first-hand the atmosphere surrounding the hockey teams at the Olympics.

We can do all this if we meet the funding threshold of 280,000 euros. But: the more money we collect, the better the film will be! If we manage to collect 400,000 euros, we can go one further, and take a closer look at the history of international hockey too. In Holland, India and Australia, hockey players are celebrated as superstars. We want to visit Teun de Nooijer, the world’s most famous hockey player, in Bloomendaal and find out why hockey is celebrated in neighbouring Holland whereas here in Germany it lives a life in the shadows. We also want to fly to India and attend a unique hockey tournament. In the “India League”, the best of the best are auctioned off, including Mo Fürste and Co.

In addition, we would of course like to show you exciting footage from Olympic hockey tournaments; however to do this we need additional funds, because we will have to pay a licence fee to use that footage. For the project, we would get hold of a high-speed camera which would allow us to present and analyse the current scenes from the game in more detail and more immersively. And finally, we would like to show you some of the best tips and tricks suggested by hockey pros.

In summary: with a budget of 280,000 euros we will produce a classic, stirring documentary about German hockey. Given 400,000 euros, we could look beyond the confines of Germany and shoot footage in Holland and India too. In addition, for 400,000 euros we can put three additional films on the DVD:

  • Report about hockey families in Germany, length 30–45 min
  • Portrait of “Our Captains”, length 20–30 min
  • Tips & tricks from field players and goalies, length 15–30 min

If we exceed the funding target, the proceeds with be donated to the hockey-related charity projects “Hamburg Hockey hilft e.V.”, “Hockey India Village” and the DHB trust for promoting young players within the German Hockey Federation.
